Frequently Asked Questions

When will my child’s games be?

A majority of matches are held on Saturday mornings. Most games do not go past 12 Noon, although one may be scheduled to start at Noon. Occasionally, matches may be held on a school night to make up a match that was cancelled due to inclement weather. We cannot promise that you will never have a match on a school night, but we would never keep your child out later than an appropriate time for your child’s age group. A match takes approximately one hour. Players are usually asked by their coach to show up 30-15 minutes before a match to warm-up and select starting positions for that match.

Where are the games and practices held?

Shallotte Township Park, Main Street, Shallotte (Click Field Locations for maps.)
Soccer fields are in the back section of the park.

When will my child have practice?

Practices are held on school nights during the week. Younger players (up to 7 years old) will normally practice only 1 time a week for about 45-60 minutes. Players 8 years old and older will normally practice 2 times a week for about 60-90 minutes each. We cannot tell you before your child is registered which night you should leave open for practice. That decision is made by your child’s coach with input from the parents on the team. We must let our un-paid, volunteer coaches select a night that works best with his/her work schedule because they are giving of themselves to help our community. Most coaches know that Wednesday evenings are popular for church youth groups and therefore usually would not schedule practices on that night. You may write on your registration form that your child cannot practice on a certain night due to church, dance, karate, etc. so that we can let a coach know before adding your child to that team roster.

What if my child misses a practice?

We do not penalize players for missing a practice by making them sit on the bench during a match. Transportation is usually not the child’s fault. However, repeated absences may cause a coach to feel that your child is not ready to play a starting position, or is not experienced enough to play a certain position that requires regular practice.
